Raised Foil and Raised Gloss Business Cards vs Traditional Foil Stamping and Spot UV

At Vermillion Silk we offer foil business cards and spot uv business cards. For each of both print finishing options, we offer two varieties - the traditional foil or spot gloss approach, and a raised foil or raised gloss option.

Depending on your design and preferences, there can be positives and negatives to either choice of raised or flat foil and gloss. Here we will describe some of the more subtle differences to consider so that you can be sure you are choosing exactly what finish is best for your particular design.

Raised Foil and Raised Spot UV Gloss Pros and Cons

Raised foil and raised gloss create a bold effect over the applied area and draw even more attention than flat foil or spot gloss. Our raised foil and gloss are available only on our suede business cards which will provide the ultimate contrast of textures - between the smooth velvet feel of suede matte and the thick feel and reflections from raised foil and raised gloss.

If the foil or gloss elements in your design are not extremely complex and you prefer a raised or embossed look then raised foil or raised gloss could work well for you.

Raised foil and raised gloss can help you to create a very unique business card, but because of the raised effect, detailed designs with small elements very close to one another in foil or gloss may not appear as distinguishable as they would with flat foil or spot uv.

Unlike flat foil stamping or spot uv, it is not possible to combine both raised foil and raised gloss on a single design (though with both of those options raised, the end result might look too flashy). If you absolutely want to combine foil and spot uv in a single design, then our flat foil stamping and spot uv over silk cards would be the best option for you.

Because raised gloss and raised foil effects are more costly, we offer both of these options at a lower minimum quantity of 250 cards. This is especially great for those that want a stand out card, but don’t go through business cards quickly. The potential downside here is that the only way to produce a quantity that small would be to use a digital press, so fine ink details, while high resolution, will not be quite as sharp as those printed on our offset presses.

Reasons to Choose Raised Foil or Raised Gloss

To summarize, if you love our suede finish, raised print effects, prefer straight corners and lower quantity orders, our raised gloss or raised foil business cards will be perfect for you.

Traditional Flat Foil and Spot UV Pros and Cons

We offer traditional, flat foil stamping over our silk business cards. Flat spot UV gloss is offered over either our silk or suede business cards. Both of these options are printed on our offset presses for the highest quality and fidelity with a minimum order of 500 cards per set.

Flat foil stamping and flat spot gloss are great for highly detailed designs where there are extremely intricate patterns or elements that need to appear clear and crisp in foil or gloss. If your design is extremely detailed, flat foil or spot gloss will be the best option for you. It is also possible to combine flat foil stamping and spot uv in a single design over a silk business card which will create a nice variety of textures and a truly stand out piece.

We also offer rounded corners on any flat foil or spot uv designs. Raised foil and raised gloss business cards are available with straight corners only.

If you love our suede finish and want to have foil stamping, raised foil might be a better option for you.

Reasons to Choose Flat Foil or Spot UV

To summarize, if you love our silk business cards, want the most options for foil colors, rounded corners, the highest quality offset printing and combining spot uv with foil stamping, our traditional flat foil and spot gloss will be the best option for your new business cards.
